Travel insurance for Pesach programs, holiday programs and tours
Questions travelers ask when insuring a holiday program (such as a Pesach or Sukkot program), a tour, or a package booked through an operator. Benefits, limits and conditions differ by plan and by state, and the plan document governs.
If the program or tour operator cancels, will insurance pay me back?
Not automatically. An operator cancelling a program is not itself a covered reason, and you should claim your refund from the operator first.
Insurance responds only if the cause is something your plan lists, such as the operator's bankruptcy under the plan's conditions.
On Travel Insured and WorldTrips, Cancel for Any Reason does not cover an operator failing to deliver the trip either.
Travel Insured Platinum and New York, and Trawick's New York plans, reimburse the airline's reissue fee for your flights if the supplier cancels the trip.
This is why paying by credit card and reading the operator's refund terms matter.
What if the program operator goes bankrupt or disappears with my money?
Every plan lists supplier bankruptcy or financial default as a reason, but the conditions differ, and on some plans it will not help with the operator you paid.
All plans: the supplier must completely stop providing travel services, more than 14 days after your coverage began.
Travel Insured New York plan: does not cover the default of the tour operator, agency or firm you bought the trip from.
Travel Insured Deluxe and Platinum: the exclusions say there is no coverage for the financial default of "Your Travel Supplier". Confirm with Travel Insured in writing before relying on it.
Trawick Florida and California: not for a firm that sold you arrangements supplied by others; you must insure the full trip cost, pay for the plan by final payment, and depart within 15 months.
WorldTrips and Trawick New York: you must buy within 21 days of your first trip payment. These documents have no exclusion for the company you bought from.
Ask a licensed agent how this applies to your operator before relying on it: info@travallamains.com.
My family's trip costs a lot. Can I insure that much?
Usually yes, but plans have maximums.
Travel Insured Deluxe: trip cancellation up to $50,000 per person. Platinum: up to $150,000 per person. Both: up to $250,000 per booking.
Trawick and WorldTrips: no base maximum is stated in the plan documents.
Cancel for Any Reason is only available for trips up to a per-person cost: $37,500 on Deluxe, $112,500 on Platinum, $50,000 on WorldTrips Explore and Elevate ($150,000 for the New York Fortuitous Reasons upgrade).
On our site, one plan covers up to 10 travelers at the same address. For larger or very high-cost trips, use Request a personal quote.
The contract says no refunds. Does that affect my insurance?
It makes your payments non-refundable, which is exactly what trip cancellation coverage is for. Insure the full non-refundable amount.
The contract does not change which reasons are covered: you can claim when you cancel for a reason your plan lists, or a percentage of your cost under Cancel for Any Reason if you bought it and meet its conditions.
The program changed hotels or isn't what was promised. Can I cancel and claim?
No. A change of venue, or a program that is not what was promised, is not a covered reason on our base plans. That is a matter between you and the operator.
If you bought Cancel for Any Reason, met its conditions, and cancel at least 48 hours before departure, you can claim the plan's percentage for a reason the plan does not otherwise cover. Note that the Travel Insured and WorldTrips versions state they do not cover a supplier's failure to provide the arrangements you bargained for. The insurance company decides the claim.
I pay for my trip in installments. How do I insure it?
Buy the plan within the time-sensitive period after your first payment, and insure the full trip cost you have committed to from the start, not only the deposit. This is required for Cancel for Any Reason on WorldTrips and Trawick.
If you add new arrangements later, insure them promptly: within 15 days on Trawick Pathway Premier (Florida and California versions) and within 21 days on WorldTrips and the New York plans.
Email info@travallamains.com whenever your trip cost changes and we will update your plan.
I paid the operator by check, wire or Zelle. Can I still insure the trip and claim?
Yes, you can insure the trip. The plans define trip payments as cash, check or credit card amounts actually paid; they do not mention wire or Zelle transfers by name.
Keep bank proof of every payment, and the operator's invoice and cancellation terms, because a claim requires them.
If someone gets sick during the trip and we all leave early, what is covered?
Trip interruption reimburses the unused, non-refundable part of the trip and the extra cost of getting home, when you leave early for a covered reason such as the sickness or injury of a traveler or family member.
A physician must certify that the condition prevents continuing the trip. Family members on the trip are covered as family members or traveling companions of the sick person.
I booked flights separately from the program. Is that one trip or two?
It is one trip, and one plan can cover all of it. Add up every prepaid, non-refundable cost for the trip (program, flights, excursions) and insure the total.
Your first trip payment date is the earliest payment for any part of the trip. If you buy Cancel for Any Reason, ask a licensed agent how it treats flights or excursions booked separately from the program.
The operator requires insurance or offers its own. Do I have to buy theirs?
That depends on your contract with the operator, so check it. If the operator asks for proof of insurance, your plan confirmation shows your coverage.
A cancellation waiver sold by an operator is the operator's own promise, not an insurance plan, and it depends on the operator staying in business.
What if a delay makes us arrive late and miss part of the program?
If the delay has a covered cause and reaches the plan's minimum hours, travel delay benefits reimburse meals and lodging, and some plans reimburse the unused prepaid part of the trip.
The Travel Insured New York plan also lists a delayed arrival that makes you lose 50% or more of your trip as a cancellation reason. Keep the airline's written proof of the delay.
